Last Weekend We Got HAY!

Ok, so I was a little worried we wouldn't find good hay at a reasonable price (one we could afford) to get us through winter.  I called an add listing hay for $4.50 a bale and the guy said he had about 100 bales still in the field, if we wanted to pull them off the field we could have them for $4 a bale.  $4 a bale is a great price out here.  They are 60lb bales and a bale can run you up to $6-7 each (usually up to 60-80lbs).  So we thought this was a fabulous deal!  And the best part was it was only 4.5 miles from our house!    So went out and started loading hay in the horse trailer and the back of the truck.  We made 5 trips with truck and trailer and one more with just the truck.....because as it turns out, the guy had way more hay out there than he thought - we brought home 325 bales!!!!!  We didn't need that much, so our neighbors, Norm and Linda, who own Paint, took 100 bales.  We brought the hay over to their barn.  We were going to tarp our hay on pallets in the back yard.  We can only get 100 bales in the barn.  You can see below that we started to stack on pallets.  Then Norm offered to store our hay in their barn for us.  How nice is that :)  So we moved our hay over, and have 125 bales stored there and another 100 in our barn!  We have enough hay to last us until next spring!  What a relief!!!  The horses like the hay too.  I was kinda worried about that, with it being a new type of hay for them.  It's a grass hay and they clean it up after every meal.  I guess we did alright :) :) :)

Horray!!  I am so happy to have a full barn of hay (and the neighbors barn ;)  The truck got a work out too!  We are exhausted!  That's a lot of hay to move!  Up off the field into the truck, then stacked into the barn(s).  

You can see the neighbor's barn in the background to the right in this photo.  That's where we have half our hay stored.  Norm and Linda have been great to us!  I have decided they are our "Wyoming Parents".  They also take care of our horses when we are gone.  We take care of Paint when they are gone too.  We have met the nicest people out here in WY.  People just don't think twice about helping out your neighbor out here.
Oh yeah, and it poured rain a few hours after we got done with the hay on Sunday.  We got lucky!  We had put a sheet of plastic over the top of the hay before we moved it because it looked like it was going to rain.  We got it all moved in time!
